CBNS and CLEX Media Training
30 Oct 10:00 am - 30 Oct 4:30 pm

tba, Melbourne

This one-day workshop is a joint event of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes (CLEX) and the CBNS.

The Media training workshop will provide you with the skills to develop confidence during interviews with the media and the general public. It is designed to help you develop the skills to get your message across. It will show you why everything you know about communications is wrong and give you the basics of communications: how to build your narrative, how to effectively use the and-but-there approach and in the end how to describe what you do. These skills are also valuable in preparing for job interviews, fellowship applications, delivering presentations or even writing articles.

  • How to prepare for an interview
  • How to control an interview
  • Dealing with and mastering difficult questions
  • The difference between writing and speaking
  • Hands-on group work
  • Mock interviews

The skills you learn during the workshop can be also valuable for:
  • Job interviews
  • Outreach activities
  • Speaking to the public
  • TV/radio interviews
  • Fellowship applications
  • Pitch your ideas to companies
  • Delivering presentations
